Cuddalore: Dr Ramachandradu, a native of Puducherry, who was injured
in road accident in Cuddalore in 2011, was granted a compensation of
Rs 1.52 crore by the additional sub-court.
In May 2011, after undertaking a surgery at the Cuddalore Abirami
hospital, Ramachandradu was returning to Puducherry on his motorbike
around 9 pm. A speeding car hit his bike while nearing
Periyakattupalayam, in Cuddalore. He suffered severe injuries to his
head and also sustained a fracture to his arm.
He was first taken to Arupadai Veedu Medical College hospital in
Puducherry and then to the JIPMER. He filed a case at the additional
sub-court in Cuddalore against the car owner and the New India
insurance company seeking compensation.
Advocate Chandrasekaran said, “We argued that Dr Ramachandradu had
the capacity of earning more income through his profession. But due
to the accident, he could not continue his profession. Considering
our argument, the court ordered the insurance company to give Rs 1.52
crore as compensation.”
He added, “The court has also ordered the insurance company to give
the compensation with the interest of 7.5% for the period between the
date on which the case was filed and the date on which the
compensation amount is given.”
